BIOGRAPHY
Rambling from a clustered freeway to a country road, East of LA, somewhere between a cactus and a warehouse, where citrus withers beneath a sun soaked sky, deep In the desert hills of the Inland Empire (IE), you'll find musician, artist, Jonny Miller Jr.
Brimming with wholesome, soulful sincerity, Miller leads with a dusty voice that is uniquely husky yet reminiscent of classic Americana Folk singers. His acoustic guitar establishes a core of authenticity in his compositions. Often fortified by colorful harmonica solos, his sound includes elements of Country Rock & Indie Bluegrass. He's joined by the haunting harmonies of his brilliant singer-songwriter family including his sister Danielle Cornell on bass & her husband Tommy Cornell on banjo. Along with drummer Mike Wilson (9th cousin twice removed) they record & perform as JONNY MILLER & SUNS.
A contemplative lyricist with an appetite for substance, Miller's verses record his rage against injustice, his struggle with depression, and his profound love of nature. A folk revivalist, he's also a California Creative Corps grant-winning artist, awarded for his IE SONGS project reviving the classic labor songs of Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, The Almanac Singers & People's Songs, and publishing an updated regional version of the historic IWW Little Red Songbook. He’s produced an album of updated labor songs recorded live at International Workers Day ‘24, singing to local Amazon warehouse workers, migrant workers, environmentalists & protestors of the Zionist genocide in Palestine. He continues to show up on picket lines, tour, write & perform working class songs of struggle.
